When it is about Japan, can electronics and technology be left out? Japanese-English dictionaries are now also available in hand held portable electronic devices. Electronic Japanese-English dictionaries feature several types of internal dictionaries, some of which also have the translation feature in them.
Electronic dictionaries come with memory card slots that can be used for database extension. The embedded internal dictionaries can be from several publishers. There is a special “jump” function, which allows users to surf from dictionary to dictionary when looking up words. This feature is also known as “skip-search”. The major manufacturers of electronic dictionaries are Canon, Casio, Sharp and Seiko.
Besides giving a list of the definition of words, online Japanese-English dictionaries also provide look-up words for Kanji (Chinese characters in Japanese logographic writing), by radicals and sub-radicals. Moreover, these Japanese-English dictionaries will not only give you an idea of kanji readings and meanings, but the interface will also help you to learn about words with reference to kanji characters.
