Ever since the 1990’s, Dillard’s has ensured that many stores were purchased which includes Castner Knott, Bacon’s, Gayfers, glass Block, de Lendrecie’s, Maison Blanche, McAlpin’s, Root’s The Jones Store, Lion Store, Joslins, J.B. White and Hennessy’s. Later, there was a sale by Dillard’s outlet to May Department Store Co. This store was previously owned by Mercantile Stores. Then again, there was additional trade that was made by the company when they exchanged seven of their stores with Belk in exchange of nine.

In the year 2004, the part of Dillard’s outlet that handled operations related to credit card operations were given up, to the GE Money Bank. The change that was brought about was that customers would now get two credit cards, one issued by American Express and the other issued by Dillard’s. Also, these cards could be used to purchase anything and would be accepted in all stores that recognized American Express Bank. The travel agency owned by Dillard’s was shut down in the year 2008 and so was their in-store location which existed and operated in 43 stores out of the total of 318.

In 2008, due to the recession Dillard’s outlet shut shop at the mall located in Knoxville Center. Since then, the outlet has remained shut. However, stores are still expanding and they have begun opening outlets in shopping centers that are not malls. One of the largest stores owned by Dillard’s outlet is the store located at Scottsdale Fashion Square in Arizona. They also have stores located in Virginia, Park Plaza Mall, Austin, Texas, South Carolina and, Florida. Apart from these, about ten buildings in Florida were also acquired from Mervyns and a store in Houston, Texas was also taken over.
