La Martiniere Calcutta is certainly causing heart ache. After spending a lifetime here, it kills you to hear that Boy’s school is embroiled in controversy. Whether these are allegations, or simply attempts at defamation isn’t the important thing. What’s scary is the name being dragged in time and again. This year a young boy died with a noose around his neck at home.
The controversy: Supposedly he was a naughty child, and the principal had spoken to him the day before he died. The child’s father said it was an accidental death. I’ve read plenty of reports that have old Martinian boys enraged and wanting to beat the new current principal for his high handed unethical ways. There’s other reports suggesting he’s not as great as Mr. Alney used to be.
The next controversy: Some class teacher from class IV ( Sanjay Smart) failed a class IV student because his father didn’t submit to his bids of extortion in the form of gifts and a laptop. The child’s father has messages as proof.
Where are we headed?
Why would there be such lack of discipline?
Who is answerable?

It is a systemic malaise. It has caused immediate grief to see my Alma Mater comign out in the news for all the wrong reasons…but looking back in retrospect, and after a period of contemplation i would say, its not unexpected.
Such practices have not made their presence as suddenly as we think it has. In fact, if each one reading the post introspects for a moment even, you will know that you too have witnessed somethign similar to this in your school days. Either as a victim or as a silent observor.
Needless to say, what is visible today is now the cracks that are appearing and if we have to prevent the rot inside…a movment of all well wishers needs to be organised as a system.

Your standpoint supports public sentiment that the damage isn’t an overnight phenomenon. True that wrongdoing has been rampant for a while now, only some didn’t know, and those who did weren’t vocal. We can only hope that this time around their can be a permanent solution and everyone who has something to say about the matter is vocal about it in order to ensure that the matter isn’t soon forgotten, like most things around us.
